FAQs

Can I integrate FormPopper with the Shopify payment gateway?

FormPopper does NOT support integration with the Shopify checkout. If payment is required, there are 2 alternatives:

  1. Use the Form platform's (eg Google, Typeform) built in or plugin payment gateway
  2. Use a different app that does support payment using the Shopify checkout

Should I use the Popup button code or just a simple link (ie an autowidget)?

Use the popup button code when you are able - it has:

  1. additional styling options
  2. code to prevent clicking the link before the page has loaded (which would redirect to the Form page instead of showing the popup)

Where can I use the Popup button code?

Most places you are able to paste html code:

  1. On a page, product description or blog post using Shopify's text editor. You can switch to html view by clicking the "<>" button and paste at your desired location.
  2. If you are confident editing theme files (or have a developer), you can add this code pretty much anywhere on your site you wish by adding it to your theme.

Most places you can place a link:

  1. On a page, product description or blog post (though as discussed above, the popup code is often the better option here)
  2. In the top level of your main menu
  3. Locations in your theme settings that allow you to add a link (such as button on your homepage)

The following places may NOT work (but feel free to try!):

  1. Anywhere within ANOTHER app
  2. Dropdown / multi-tiered menu
  3. Any other links that are not visible when the page loads

Why is my link redirecting to the form page instead of showing a popup?

The first possible cause of this is that FormPopper has been uninstalled, and the solution is simply to reinstall it.

The second reason is that the overall page load time is a little slow, and the link has been clicked before FormPopper has loaded. There are 2 options to fix this:

  1. Use the popup code instead of the popup link, as the code prevents the link / button from being clicked before FormPopper has loaded.
  2. Take steps to speed up your page load time as discussed below.

Can I speed up the FormPopper load time?

The FormPopper code is a very small file (a fraction the size of a homepage image), so it will not noticeably slow down a site. However, it is often loaded last on the page, meaning that for slower loading sites you will have to wait for the rest of the page to load before FormPopper will.

Therefore the solution to speed up FormPopper is to speed up the rest of your page loading time. Here are a few tips to help with this:

  1. Automated Analysis Tools: To understand what is slowing down your site, you can use an automatic analysis tool such as Google's Pagespeed Insights or Shopify's own store speed test.
  2. Lookout for images: Lots of images will slow down your site (often the homepage in particular). Its worth comparing speeds between eg your homepage and a simple text based page of your site to see how big an effect this is having.
  3. Unused apps / code: Make sure you delete any apps (AND app code) that you no longer need. FormPopper doesn't add any code to your theme, but some other apps do, so be careful with this if trying out a lot of apps.
  4. Non-optimized theme: Most modern themes should be fairly well optomized, but if unsure feel free to preview a few different themes if you are concerned.

I am getting the error: "Google Form refused to connect" in my popup.

Ensure your Google Form is embed enabled:

  1. Go to your Google Form dashboard
  2. Select the Form you are having trouble with
  3. Click "Send" (top right)
  4. Click "<>" icon next to "send via" options
  5. Ensure that it offers an "<iframe src=....." code. If so, your Google Form is embed enabled
  6. If you receive a message "This form cannot be embedded because...", you will need to adjust the requirement in your Google Form before proceeding.

How do I cancel my subscription?

To cancel your FormPopper subscription, you simply need to uninstall the app:

  1. From your Shopify dashboard, click on "Settings" (bottom left)
  2. In the column on the left, scroll and select the "Apps and Sales Channels" menu
  3. Find the FormPopper app, and click "remove" beside it
  4. Follow the steps to uninstall
